Grandpa Ross and Aliza

Milo and Aliza Ross, Great Grandfather and Great Granddaughter

Today I want to share two photos of Grandpa Ross and Aliza.  Grandpa was 92 then, but he was sure playing with two year old Aliza this day.  The generations can easily connect.  As you can see from the photo she was enjoying it.  He was too.

When it came time to say good-bye she was more than happy to give him a great big kiss.  He was happy to receive.

Dentist Office #6 Slovenian Visit

Stepping back into what only seems yesterday but in reality is 11 years, here is a photograph of the roommates at Dentist Office #6 on Darwin Avenue in Logan, Cache, Utah on 17 October 2003.  Matjaž Marinčič had come to visit from Slovenia and stayed for a few nights.  With the new-found friendships, we snapped a picture.  Mark had visited Llubljana where Matjaž is from and it is from that friendship that he came to visit.  Good times.

St Pancras to Lille

I was reading a newspaper article this week and it referenced St Pancras Station in London.  It made me think about the last time I was there in 2008.  Here is an impromptu picture Amanda took on that occasion.  Here you can see a shot of the famed Barlow trainshed.

I believe I had just enjoyed a steak and potato pasty and we were were on our way to find one of the draws of St Pancras besides just catching a train.  Amanda just had to find this location before we boarded our next train.

This was just an extra.  We were really there to hop on the Eurostar to go to the Continent.  We caught the train and I slept all the way to Lille, France due to a little jet lag.

This picture we snapped on the walk between Gare de Lille-Europe to Gare de Lille-Flandres on Av. le Corbusier.  I looked it up on Google Maps and boy, the route has changed since this photo was taken.  As you can tell, it was a dismal day we were there with plenty of green.  Not so much anymore, much more urban now!

We did not take any pictures in Gare de Lille-Flandres, I remember it being quite impressive.  Look it up online.  Or, I guess we will have to go back.

We did take one more picture at Gare de Lille-Flandres.  You can see it here and our funny take of it at the time.

More of the photos of more peripheral lines of my family tree.

George Donaldson is the brother to my Great Great Grandfather, William Scott Donaldson.  I have also written about George and William’s parents, Joseph Russell and Sarah Armina Todd Donaldson.

George was born 10 October 1871 in Joyceville, Frontenac, Ontario and died 8 December 1943 in Watertown, Jefferson, New York.  He lived virtually his whole life in Cape Vincent, Jefferson, New York.

Bernard & Mary Schneider

Mary and Bernard Schneider

Mary and Bernard Schneider

I have uploaded many of my photographs to FamilySearch.  I am about half way through all my photos that are family history related.  It is more time-consuming than I thought it would be.

This photo was provided to me by a distant cousin.  Knowing I am distantly related to their Jonas relatives, I appreciate having a copy.  Unfortunately I know little beyond the basic life facts of these people.

Mary Jonas is my third cousin three times removed.  She was born 8 June 1869 in Richfield, Washington, Wisconsin and died 14 November 1951 in Neenah, Winnebago, Wisconsin.  She was buried 17 November 1951 in Oshkosh, Winnebago, Wisconsin.  Her parents are John Jonas (1845-1928) and Margaret Mary Voss (1849-1929).

Mary married Bernard Bruno Schneider on 2 May 1893 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He was born 11 December 1872 in Berlin, Germany and died 22 June 1927 in Oshkosh.

Together Bernard and Mary had 8 children.

Margaret Schneider born 26 May 1894 in Milwaukee and died 31 July 1986.

Bernard John Schneider born 6 June 1896 in Oshkosh and died 19 December 1986 in Neenah.

Appolonia A Schneider born 12 May 1898 in Oshkosh and died 12 December 1980 in Oshkosh.

Eleanor Schneider born 6 May 1901 in Oshkosh and died 5 February 1983 in Neenah.

Maria Schneider born 20 January 1903 in Oshkosh and died 29 November 1991 in Manitowoc, Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Francis Schneider born 1905 in Oshkosh and died 1908 in Oshkosh.

Catherine Schneider born 29 January 1909 in Oshkosh and died 28 December 2002.

As I mentally prepare myself to dig out the 1956 Dodge Coronet from its layers of dust, bird deposits, and more, I stumbled on this picture while looking for another picture.  I thought I would share because these were/are some great friends.  I hope I do not embarrass anybody too much.

I just have the photo named Junior Prom.  I do not seem to have any of the dance pictures so I cannot verify.  Sorry Nicole, I cannot remember which dance(s) we went to in school.  I remember this day at the Armstrong home northwest of Paul.  I remember driving the Dodge out to pick up and drop off Nicole, but very little of the dance itself.  I even remember that all six of us rode in the Old Dodge to the dance and back.  Fun date, fun times, great friends.

Nipper

Another couple of photos I found with some names on it.  They are not related to me in any way that I can tell.

Dewey & Josephine Nipper with their son, 4 July 1943

Dewey & Josephine Nipper with their son, 4 July 1943

Introducing Sterling Dewey Nipper and his wife Josephine Gurwell Nipper.  He was born 12 March 1910 in Benton, Polk, Tennessee and died 1 April 1928 in Buhl, Twin Falls, Idaho.  He is buried in Filer, Twin Falls, Idaho.  She was born 7 January 1926 in Martinsburg, Audrain, Missouri and died 24 May 2004 in Buhl.  She is also buried in Filer.  Since this photo was in the collection of a family from Buhl, I assume I have the right Dewey and Josephine Nipper.  The photo did not have the Gurwell name on it.  I have no idea who the boy is, as far as I can tell the Nipper children are all still alive, however many there were.

Interesting my father was born the same day this photo was taken and Grandpa was preparing for war in Hawaii.

I don’t know that these children are related, but the photos have Nipper names on them.  Therefore, I assume there is some relationship.

Ivan & Ivell Nipper

Ivan & Ivell Nipper

This following photo reads, “Jess Nipper’s children”.  I don’t know if that is Josephine’s nickname or if Jess is short for Jesse or something else.

"Jess Nipper's children"

“Jess Nipper’s children”

However, this photo reads, “Jess Nipper’s Kids, he was married to Grandma Williams’ sister Pearl” and from that I conclude Jess is someone else.  There is a Jesse Franklin Nipper, born 10 October 1887 in Cleveland, Bradley, Tennessee and died 8 January 1967 in Twin Falls, Twin Falls, Idaho.  He is the first cousin to Sterling Dewey Nipper.  He married Pearl Lulu Ownbey, born 20 November 1887 in Custer County, Idaho and died 9 March 1930 in Buhl.

With the information on that photo, I found a sister to Pearl Lulu Ownbey named Ethel Gertrude Ownbey born 15 August 1886 in Green Forest, Carroll, Arkansas, and died 1 May 1967.  She was married to Solomon Walker Williams born 27 October 1879 in Sevierville, Sevier, Tennessee, and died 22 April 1958.  Therefore, all the names and references seem to add up so I am confident I have the right people.  Unfortunately, none of the children are named and the records I am looking at do not show any deceased children.  They could all very well still be alive out there in the world somewhere.

In from San Bruno

I recently received this picture from a fellow Find-a-Grave member.  It also shows on that website (which I much prefer to Billion Graves, despite what seems to be such a big push to the latter).

This photo confirms that John William Ross is buried at Golden Gate National Cemetery and not San Francisco National Cemetery.  I updated their history with the photo as linked in the previous sentence.  Golden Gate National Cemetery is in San Bruno, San Mateo, California.  I will have to make it a stopping point the next time I am in San Francisco and have some time (apparently about 15 miles from downtown).
