Camas County High School

Camas County High School, 27 March 2013.

I snapped this picture in 2013.  This was the second time I ever visited Fairfield, Camas, Idaho that I recall.  I drove around town and found a forgotten town in a forgotten part of Idaho.  The town was hauntingly charming and reminiscent of another time.  That made me want to spend more time there.  I might have even been tempted to consider moving there, but I knew I would be alone in such a venture.  I have not been through Fairfield since.  Even though Fairfield is the County Seat, I have not yet visited the County Court as an attorney, which I posted a picture of before.

This picture of the high school is deceptive.  I believe the school is K-12, and is a bit bigger than this picture might lead you to believe.  This appears to me as the oldest part of the building with all the more recent additions and annexes behind this view.  The school still fits within the city block though, so it is not huge.

Rattlesnake Station

I recently drove from Mountain Home, Elmore, Idaho to Fairfield, Camas, Idaho.  Along the route, I stopped at the old Rattlesnake Station location off Highway 20.  Rattlesnake Station was on the Overland Stage Line in Idaho.  After the Oregon Short Line railroad came through the valley the Post Office was dragged down the hill to be closer to the railroad.  The Post Office was later renamed to Mountain Home.  But this pictures gives a glimpse of how barren the landscape is in the area (look beyond the highway).

Camas County Courthouse

The other day I found myself in Fairfield, Camas, Idaho.  It was the first time I remember being there, although I know I was there as a kid.  Since the County Courthouse seemed different from the others I find myself in, I snapped a picture.

In visiting, apparently the Court has been here since 1935.  The Courtroom is on the second floor.  The Courtroom will take you back to a much simpler time.

The building was original a bank.  The bank didn’t do well and failed.  Its manager apparently spent time in prison for the failure of the bank.
